The Department of Psychology at The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a Department Chair at Associate or Full Professor rank in the area of Human Factors or Clinical/Counseling Psychology, with appointment beginning Fall 2025. Department Chairs receive their base salary plus an administrative stipend.

 

Responsibilities: This position will involve serving as Chair of the Psychology Department, with a focus on enhancing recruitment and retention to facilitate growth of our undergraduate (B.A., B.S.) and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) programs, and strategic planning for further development of our department through the implementation of a M.A. program in Counseling Psychology. This role also will include responsibility for strategic leadership in developing and implementing a shared departmental vision; modeling, supporting, and rewarding faculty excellence in teaching and research; developing partnerships and networks across the university, with alumni, and the broader community; communicating with and providing support to Psychology majors; evaluating departmental faculty, including reviews for tenure and promotion; assessing and revising the curriculum; coordinating department course scheduling; managing and administering fiscal resources; and representing the department in college and university-level planning and strategy development. Additionally, as an Associate or Full Professor, the candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate/graduate level courses in either Human Factors, while contributing to the Human Factors concentration in the new Applied Experimental Psychology doctoral program, or Clinical/Counseling Psychology, contributing to both the BA in Psychology, which is counseling focused, and the newly planned Master’s in Counseling Program. Applicants with either area of focus will be expected to conduct and publish high-quality scholarly research in a collegial environment where both intra- and inter-disciplinary collaborations and the pursuit of external funding are valued.

 

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Human Factors or Clinical/Counseling Psychology is required. Candidates should be at the Associate or Full Professor level already or be able to obtain tenure at UAH prior to starting. Those with a Clinical/Counseling background should be license eligible. Candidates should have demonstrated a strong record of publications, the ability to obtain external funding, and excellence in teaching.
